Lucknow, October 15 (IANS) Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday attacked the BJP and urged the people of Bihar to oust the saffron party from power in the assembly elections to be held in November.
Addressing a press conference here, Akhilesh Yadav said, “We have defeated the BJP in Awadh, Uttar Pradesh. Now it is the turn of the people of Bihar to defeat it in Magadha.”
Accusing the BJP of pushing Bihar into unemployment and inflation, the SP chief appealed to voters to support the candidates of socialist and alliance parties.
He said, “BJP has only contributed to unemployment and rising prices in Bihar. People should vote for those who work for social justice and equality.”
Taking aim at the Uttar Pradesh government, he said, “This government sits on the white table and tells black lies. When it was time for them to leave, they suddenly remembered to clean Gomti. SP had already developed a model to clean Gomti and Varuna. Work on that model should continue.”
Akhilesh Yadav accused the BJP government of UP of failing to maintain law and order and alleged that atrocities on Dalits, backward classes and minorities are highest under its rule.
“Police are being used for political purposes while criminals are roaming freely,” he said, citing NCRB data.
On the government’s idea of promoting ‘cow tourism’, Akhilesh Yadav quipped: “Before talking about cow tourism, save people from wolves. One of our MLAs has reported 43 incidents where people were attacked by wolves. Serve cows, we have no objection – but first save Uttar Pradesh from bulls.”
Continuing his attack, he said that BJP has no governance model to show. “They talk about encounters to claim law and order, but if that were true then how could incidents like Banthara have happened? There is no fertilizer available anywhere, sugarcane prices have not increased and farmers’ lands are being looted,” he alleged.
He also mocked BJP’s ‘Swadeshi’ statement and said it was hollow. “The government is feeding ‘Swadeshi’ powder to the people while importing everything from abroad. If they are really Swadeshi at heart, they should impose duty on Chinese goods,” he said.
