‘We have got our son back,’ says father of dead hostage.
The grieving father of hostage Tamir Nimrodi said he was “fortunate” to have final confirmation of his son’s death after months of agonizing uncertainty.
Alon Nimrodi told Channel 12 that after Tamir’s body was returned to Israel on Tuesday and identified today, there was “some relief to know that our son has returned to us, even if it’s in this coffin.”
He said, “For us, the trip ended in a terrible way that I did not expect, but there is a long struggle ahead for the release of the 21 other hostages held in the Gaza Strip and we must continue the struggle until they all return home.”

Palestinian Authority ‘ready’ to operate Gaza portion of Rafah crossing
The Palestinian Authority said on Wednesday it is ready to operate the Gaza-side of a key crossing for aid between Egypt and Gaza.
“We are now ready to re-engage, and we have informed all parties that we are ready to operate the Rafah crossing,” said Mohammed Shtayyeh, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’s special envoy.
An Israeli security official said Wednesday that the crossing had been closed to assist amid conflicting reports. It is being told that preparations are going on for the movement of citizens.
It was not clear whether the 600 trucks that entered the enclave on Wednesday would cross the border. Aid trucks entered Gaza through other crossings.
An Israeli official told Reuters that 600 trucks would enter Gaza – the full daily complement required under the ceasefire plan.

Hostage’s father says his son was kept handcuffed in a cage for a year
The father of a hostage recently returned to Israel said his son was kept handcuffed in a cage for a year after trying to escape.
Yaron Or told Kan radio that his son, Avinatan, was handcuffed to “a forbidden place” about 1.8 meters high and as long as a mattress after he tried to escape.
He said that his son was beaten, and was kept in a tunnel for the entire duration of his captivity.

How many dead Israeli hostages are left in Gaza?
As part of a preliminary ceasefire agreement, Hamas agreed to return 48 hostages still held in Gaza.
The group returned all 20 surviving hostages on Monday. This week, it began returning the remains of 28 people who were believed dead.
Four bodies were returned on Monday and four more arrived on Tuesday.
Relatives identified three of the bodies returned on Tuesday, but the IDF said after a forensic examination that the fourth did not match any of the remaining hostages.
Sources told Israeli media that Hamas expected to return four more bodies on Wednesday.

The bodies of Palestinians sent back to Gaza this week arrived blindfolded, with signs of gunshot wounds or being crushed by tanks, the enclave’s Nasser Hospital said in a harrowing report.
About 45 dead Palestinians were transferred from Israel to the Nasser Medical Complex on Monday.
The forensic department of the hospital told cnn He has not yet been identified on Tuesday.
Everyone arrived with their hands and feet tied, the hospital said. It said that they had arrived with numbers marked instead of their names.

A Middle Eastern diplomat and a second source familiar with the matter told the Israeli outlet that Hamas had informed mediators that it would repatriate the remains late Tuesday amid confusion over the return of bodies.
Last night four bodies were returned to Israel and three were identified as the remains of hostages. But the IDF said Wednesday after a forensic investigation that the fourth did not belong to any hostage.
An Israeli source also told cnn Hamas is expected to return more bodies today.

Fourth body returned to Israel, no hostages: IDF
The IDF said Wednesday that a fourth body returned to Israel late Tuesday was not that of a hostage.
“Following the completion of the investigation at the National Institute of Forensic Medicine, the fourth body handed over to Israel by Hamas does not match any hostage,” it said in a statement.
“Hamas needs to make all necessary efforts for the return of the dead hostages.”
Hamas returned the remains of four more hostages on Tuesday, bringing the total to eight. A further 20 people are believed to remain in Gaza, increasing pressure on Hamas to repatriate the bodies.
