Passengers have been warned of major disruption to train travel during rush hour between Liverpool and Manchester due to the point failure.
Services at Earlstown being hit amid failure liverpool Lime Street, Warrington Bank Quay and manchester On the morning of Wednesday, October 15.
Now all lines have reopened and services are expected to be normal. Major disruptions such as cancellations, delays and diversions continued till 10.30 am.
Routes affected include Northern services between Chester/Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Victoria, between Chester and Leeds and between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Airport.
TransPennine Express services between Liverpool Lime Street and Newcastle/Stalybridge were affected.
Transport services for Wales between Chester/Holyhead/Llandudno and Manchester Airport were also disrupted.
Northern, TransPennine Express and Transport for Wales all offered rail replacement road transport amid the disruption. Contact your train operator for the latest times and routes, or use Network Rail’s train replacement service website,
During the now-ended disruption, passengers traveling between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester were advised to use services traveling via Warrington Central, while passengers traveling between Chester and Manchester were advised to use services traveling via Altrincham.
Affected customers were able to use their tickets on alternative services with different train operators at no extra cost between some routes amid the earlier delays.
For example, operators advised that East Midlands Railway and TransPennine Express services between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Piccadilly were available to passengers.
Network Rail is advising passengers to keep their train tickets, as they may be entitled to compensation if their journey is delayed.
