Jaipur, October 15 (IANS) In view of the death of 20 people in the massive fire in a bus in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Wednesday postponed his scheduled campaign program in Bihar.

The CM reacted swiftly to the tragedy, gave priority to relief and rescue operations and issued a series of urgent instructions to officials and ministers.

On Wednesday, Chief Minister Sharma spoke to public representatives and BJP workers in Jaisalmer and Jodhpur and urged them to assist the affected families and support the ongoing relief efforts.

He directed the ministers and administrative officers in-charge of both the districts to remain on alert.

Cabinet Minister Madan Dilawar was directed to go to Jodhpur to monitor the medical treatment and assistance being provided to the injured. The Chief Minister personally met the families of the victims in Jodhpur late on Tuesday night and listened to their concerns seriously.

The CM reviewed the condition of the injured in the hospital, received detailed medical reports and issued instructions for better medical care. He specifically inquired about the availability of ventilators, oxygen support, ICU beds and critical medicines, deployment of a dedicated medical monitoring team of doctors and nurses for round-the-clock care and creation of a green corridor between Jaisalmer and Jodhpur to ensure quick transfer of the injured.

CM Sharma also directed that the family members of the injured should be provided accommodation, food and other necessary facilities in the hospital.

According to officials, considering the seriousness of the incident, the CM reached Jaisalmer on Tuesday. On receiving the initial report of the accident, the Chief Minister interrupted the ongoing review meeting of the Cooperative Code in the afternoon and as soon as he received information about the fire in the bus going from Jaisalmer to Jodhpur, he started collecting all the information about the accident.

At that time, state ministers Kirori Lal Meena, Gautam Duck and senior officials were present in the meeting. Shortly afterwards, he addressed the Secretariat Employees Union meeting for a few minutes and informed them of the tragic developments and his immediate departure for Jaisalmer.

He then left for Jaisalmer, saying, “Due to the seriousness of the incident, I am leaving for Jaisalmer immediately,” he told the attendees.

The Chief Minister praised the Indian Army and local residents for their quick and courageous response to help extinguish the fire and evacuate the passengers.

Officials said the state government is continuing efforts to identify the deceased through DNA testing and all resources are being mobilized for the ongoing rescue, medical and relief operations.
