Palakkad, Oct 14 (IANS) Palakkad’s Fourth Additional District Court on Tuesday found accused Chenthamara guilty in the high-profile Nenmara Pothundi Sajitha murder case.
After six years of trial proceedings, the court concluded the case on Tuesday, confirming that all charges against him, including murder, destruction of evidence and unlawful entry, were proven. The punishment will be announced on Thursday.
Sajita’s children Atulya and Akhil were present in the court to hear the verdict.
Chenthamara was also brought to the court at 10.45 am
Earlier the children had said that if the accused were released, their lives could be in danger. He demanded maximum punishment.
Chenthamara remained silent during the reading of the verdict and showed no reaction.
The murder took place in 2019 when Chenthamara attacked Sudhakaran’s wife Sajitha with a chisel at their home in Nenmara.
Chenthamara believed that Sajitha and a neighbor, Pushpa, were responsible for creating discord between him and his wife.
On the day of the crime, Sajitha’s children were in school, and her husband was in Tamil Nadu.
Despite these restrictions, he violated the conditions, occasionally returned to Nenmara and committed a brutal double murder on January 27 this year, killing Sudhakaran and his mother, Lakshmi.
According to the police, after the murders Chenthamara fled into the nearby forest and hid in the Matai forest area of Pothundi. Kerala Police started a search and arrested him. He was sent to custody on 29 January.
After the double murder, the court canceled his bail in the Sajitha case.
The trial included testimony from 50 witnesses, including the accused’s wife, who said that the weapon used in the murder was kept at the home and that Chenthamara had mentally and physically harassed her.
Physical evidence, forensic reports and more than 30 official documents were crucial in ensuring the conviction.
With this decision, the authorities are also considering starting the trial of the Nenmara double murder case of Chenthamara.
