New Delhi, Oct 13 (IANS) Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi met his French counterpart General Pierre Schille on Monday on the eve of the Conference of Heads of United Nations Force Contributing Countries (UNTCC) starting here on Tuesday. An officer gave this information.
The two chiefs reaffirmed the strong India-France strategic partnership with discussions on joint training exercises, counter-terrorism cooperation and expansion of defense technology cooperation, the official said in a statement at the X.
Both sides stressed the need to enhance interoperability in UN peacekeeping operations, he said.
Apart from meeting the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Pierre Schille visited the National Defense College in Delhi.
During the visit, he addressed and interacted with the participants of the 65th course of the National Defense Corps.
The objective of General Pierre Schille’s visit was to enhance interactions at the senior military leadership level, gain insight into the training curriculum and exchange best experiences and practices.
As (UNTCC) 2025 is bringing together senior military leadership from 32 countries that play a key role in UN peacekeeping operations, the Indian Army Chief met several visiting Army officers during the day.
The Army’s social media team said General Dwivedi met Major General Tsogtjargal Chimedgochu, Commander of Land Forces of the Mongolian Armed Forces, and reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening Mongolia’s defense capacity building and coordinating efforts towards global peacekeeping.
Both sides highlighted the importance of shared values and agreed to deepen cooperation through professional military education and regular bilateral exchanges, a statement said.
In his meeting with General Mario Rafael Stevenzi, Commander-in-Chief of the Uruguayan Army, the Indian Army Chief appreciated that country’s important role in UN peacekeeping and proposed avenues to further enhance military cooperation through training exercises and bilateral military exchanges.
The Army Chief met his counterpart Lt Gen BKGM Lasantha Rodrigo, Commander of the Sri Lankan Army, on the sidelines of #UNTCC2025 to reaffirm the close defense partnership between the two countries. The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in training, maritime security and UN peacekeeping, underscoring the shared commitment to regional stability and strategic cooperation. X.
