Punjab: Two AK-47 rifles recovered on Pakistan border

Chandigarh, Oct 13 (IANS) In an intelligence-based operation amid the ongoing special investigations and special operations to ensure a safe and peaceful festive season, Punjab Police’s State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) Amritsar in a joint operation with the Border Security Force (BSF) recovered a consignment of three weapons, including two AK-47 rifles, near the India-Pakistan border under Khemkaran in Tarn Taran, police said. The Director General said. (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Monday.

The recovered arms consignment also included one PX5 Storm pistol, one magazine and two magazines of AK-47 ammunition.

DGP Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the weapons were brought from Pakistan.

He said that further investigation is underway to identify the smugglers, trace the forward and backward links in this case and dismantle the entire trafficking network.

Sharing operational details, Assistant Inspector General (Amritsar) Sukhminder Singh Mann said that the BSF had received a credible input about the arrival of a consignment of terrorist hardware from across the border near Mehdipur village on the India-Pakistan border under BSF’s Khemkaran sector.

Taking prompt action, the police along with BSF conducted a coordinated search operation in the area of ​​Mehdipur village and a consignment of weapons was recovered from the area.

He said the origin of the recovered hardware is being ascertained, along with further investigation to trace and arrest the accused involved in this crime.

In this regard, a case First Information Report (FIR) under sections 25, 25 (1) (a), 25 (6), 25 (7) of the Arms Act, sections 111 and 61 (2) of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) and section 3 of the Passport Act has been registered at the SSOC police station, Amritsar on October 13.
