Sheopur (Madhya Pradesh), October 12 (IANS) Sheopur witnessed a celebration of empowerment as Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav gave a ‘Diwali gift’ to more than one crore women under the Laadli Behna scheme.
At a grand event held in the district, CM Yadav transferred Rs 1,541 crore directly into the accounts of about 1.27 crore sisters with a single click, marking the 29th installment of the flagship welfare initiative.
Addressing the gathering, CM Yadav announced a significant increase in the monthly assistance, saying that from Bhai Dooj onwards, the beloved sisters will get Rs 1,500 per month.
He committed to gradually increase the amount to Rs 3,000 by 2028, strengthening the government’s pledge to ensure economic dignity for women across the state. Despite the festive occasion, the current transfer was Rs 1,250 per beneficiary.
The Chief Minister clarified that the government treasury is well equipped to support the scheme and assured that the salary hike will be implemented in phases.
He cited a recent survey that highlighted the positive impact of the scheme, saying that wherever the Ladli Brahmin scheme has reached, it has brought happiness and prosperity to households.
Apart from the financial assistance, CM Yadav inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of development projects worth Rs 550 crore in Sheopur district, indicating a broader commitment to regional development and infrastructure enhancement.
Laadli Brahmin Yojana, launched for the upliftment of women through direct financial assistance, has become the cornerstone of the welfare strategy of the state.
Initially offered at Rs 1,000 during the election period, the scheme was revised to Rs 1,250 last year, with the promise of a further increase.
CM Yadav reiterated that this initiative is not just a financial program but a mission to maintain the dignity and economic independence of mothers and sisters.
Ladli Behna Yojana is part of Madhya Pradesh’s broader effort for women welfare and financial inclusion. By providing monthly assistance, the program aims to reduce economic dependency and promote self-reliance among women, especially in rural and marginalized communities.
The scheme complements other state initiatives focused on health, education and livelihoods, positioning women as central agents of change in the development story. With phased wage increases and expanded coverage, the scheme reflects a long-term vision for inclusive growth and gender equality.
