Guwahati, Oct 12 (IANS) The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is working round the clock to serve its customers and ensure prompt delivery of essential commodities to end users, officials said on Sunday.

NFR Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said that during the current financial year (2025-26) till September 2025, the zone successfully loaded 5.55 million tonnes (MT), showing an increase of 3.5 per cent compared to the same period of the previous financial year.

He said that freight traffic of many commodities registered a significant increase in September 2025 compared to the same period last year. Cement loading recorded a growth of 48.1 per cent, while coal loading increased by 133.3 per cent, container loading increased by 21.4 per cent and POL (petroleum, oils and lubricants) loading increased by 20.1 per cent.

Additionally, among other segments, stone chips recorded a remarkable growth of 100 per cent as compared to the previous financial year. The CPRO said the steady increase in freight loading reflects growing economic activity in the region.

He said that this upward trend has not only strengthened the economic outlook of the region but has also contributed significantly to the revenue of NFR.

Sharma said NFR is committed to technological advancements aimed at ensuring sustained growth in freight transportation, enhancing service reliability and efficiency.

Meanwhile, the newly constructed Molvom station in Nagaland also entered freight operations during September.

The first incoming rake containing 41 wagons of cement from Telangana was successfully placed at Molavom on September 24, the NFR official said.

Subsequently, the first outward rake was taken out on 29 September, in which 42 wagons of stone chips were loaded from Molvom to Jiraniya in Tripura.

The NFR CPRO said the growing demand for both passenger and freight services shows how railway connectivity is changing life in the North-East.

Beyond convenience, he said, these new links promise economic growth, better market access for local products and new opportunities for business and employment. The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) operates in the northeastern states and seven districts of West Bengal and five districts of North Bihar.
