Chandigarh, Oct 12 (IANS) The Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) of Punjab Police has arrested two operatives of Davinder Bambiha gang and recovered six pistols from their possession, Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said here on Sunday.

The arrested people have been identified as Sandeep Singh, a resident of Hanumangarh town in Rajasthan, and Shekhar, a resident of Kaithal in Haryana.

The recovered pistols include one PX5 pistol, one .30 bore pistol, four .32 bore pistols with 19 cartridges.

Police teams have also seized their Maruti Swift car, which they were using to transport and deliver the arms consignment.

DGP Yadav said preliminary investigation revealed that the accused were acting on the instructions of their foreign-based handlers and were planning to supply these weapons to the foot soldiers of the Bambiha gang to commit sensational crimes in the state.

He said that further investigation is underway in this case to identify the entire supply chain and establish links to destroy it.

Sharing operational details, AGTF Additional Director General of Police, Promod Ban, said that the police teams had received specific human and technical information about the Bambiha gang operatives who were plotting to commit crimes in the state.

Taking prompt action, AGTF teams under the supervision of Assistant Inspector General Sandeep Goyal in a joint operation with Barnala Police apprehended both the suspects from Barnala-Bathinda main road at Dhaula village.

The teams were led by Inspector Vikram of AGTF and Inspector Baljeet Singh of Barnala Crime Investigation Agency.
