Bengaluru, Oct 11 (IANS) Karnataka BJP on Saturday criticized the state government over the rape and murder of a 9-year-old balloon selling girl in Mysuru, saying there is no law and order in the state.
Speaking at a press conference, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly R. Ashok said, “Even during the Dussehra celebrations in Mysore, the police were unable to stop the rape of a girl. Law and order has completely broken down in the state.”
Ashok said the rape of a girl from a balloon selling family in Mysore is a major tragedy, adding that the government has completely failed to maintain law and order.
He said, “There is no situation in the state where children can roam fearlessly. Despite all this, it is not known where the police patrol at night.”
He said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister G Parameshwara have not even talked about this.
He said that police from four to five districts were deployed in Mysuru during Dussehra.
Ashok said, “Shivkumar can find potholes in Delhi, but it is not possible to stop rape. Siddaramaiah celebrated Dussehra with pomp in his home district. However, it was during Dussehra that such a tragedy happened. Birthday parties are being held inside the Bengaluru Central Jail. Drugs are being supplied inside the jail. Law and order has stooped to such a low level.”
The body of a girl selling balloons was found in Mysore city of Karnataka on Thursday. The police managed to trace the movements of the killer through CCTV footage.
Police said the girl’s family is one of the 50-odd tribal families living near the Doddakere grounds, opposite the Mysuru Palace and the exhibition grounds.
On Wednesday night, the victim sold balloons at Chamundeshwari Tepotsav, a religious event, and slept with her parents.
The girl’s parents could not find her on Thursday morning.
On searching, they found his body lying naked about 50 meters from their tent.
Police sources revealed on Saturday that after raping the accused, he brutally killed her by stabbing her 19 times with a knife.
