Raipur, Oct 11 (IANS) In a major success against Maoists, security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district successfully foiled a plot by Maoists to target personnel with deadly improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
Acting on precise intelligence inputs, a joint team of the District Police and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) 53rd Battalion recovered and safely defused three Command Cooker IEDs, each weighing approximately 5 kg.
The explosives were strategically planted between Kodaliar Bichpara and Neechepara villages under Kohkametta police station area – an area known for sporadic Maoist activity.
Officials confirmed that the devices were intended to cause maximum damage to patrolling security forces.
Robinson Guriya, superintendent of police, Narayanpur, Akshay Sabadra, additional SP, and Ajay Kumar, additional SP, Naxal operations, have led the anti-left wing extremism operation in the district.
The operation was launched on Thursday morning after officials received information from reliable sources about possible IED placement in the forested area.
A joint de-mining team of ‘B’ Company of the District Police and ITBP conducted a meticulous search operation. Upon detection of the devices, the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) deployed technical charges to neutralize the threat while strictly following safety protocols.
Command Cooker IED is a favorite device among Maoist insurgents due to its concealment ability and high lethality.
These pressure-based devices are often hidden in household objects and triggered by movement or remote signals, posing a serious threat to both security personnel and civilians.
The successful defuse marks a significant victory in the ongoing efforts to make Narayanpur a Maoist-free district.
Officials stressed that proactive intelligence gathering and prompt action are important to prevent potential casualties.
“This operation reflects our commitment to securing the area and dismantling extremist networks,” SP Robinson Guria said.
An investigation is underway to locate the culprits and prevent future sabotage attempts.
Officials noted that increased trust between villagers and law enforcement has led to more actionable inputs, making preemptive strikes against insurgent activities possible.
As part of the comprehensive counter-insurgency strategy, awareness campaigns and citizen outreach programs have been intensified to encourage public participation in maintaining peace and security in Narayanpur.
