Agartala, October 11 (IANS) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said that the farmers of the state will also benefit greatly from the PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana and Pulses Self-Reliance Mission launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday.

After listening to the Prime Minister’s speech virtually and launching two ambitious schemes in the agriculture sector at a cost of Rs 35,440 crore, the Chief Minister said that about 60,000 farmers of the state will get benefits under the PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana.

CM Saha said that North Tripura district is also included among the 100 districts across the country that have been selected for the PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana.

“Agriculture production in North Tripura district is low compared to seven other districts of Tripura. About 36 centrally sponsored schemes of various ministries and departments will be implemented in these 100 districts,” the Chief Minister said.

He said the recent reforms in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and reduction in only two tax slabs – 5 per cent and 18 per cent – will also benefit farmers in a big way, as the prices of many essential commodities required by them will come down significantly.

The Chief Minister said that Saturday is a historic day for the agriculture and allied sectors of the country as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of various projects worth Rs 42,000 crore on the occasion of the birth anniversary of two glorious sons of Mother India, Bharat Ratna Jayaprakash Narayan and Nanaji Deshmukh.

The two projects – PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana (outlay Rs 24,000 crore) and Pulses Self-Reliance Mission (outlay Rs 11,440 crore) are aimed at empowering farmer brothers and sisters, enhancing agricultural productivity, crop diversification and adoption of sustainable farming practices and facilitating availability of long-term and short-term credit in selected 100 districts.

CM Saha, accompanied by Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath and other dignitaries, said India’s grain production has increased by nearly 40 per cent compared to last year, crediting the Centre’s continuous agricultural reforms and support.

He said that Prime Minister Modi has urged the states to further increase production so that India can become the global leader in the production of all major crops.

The Chief Minister highlighted that both are designed to usher in “a new era of prosperity and welfare” for millions of farmers across the country.

CM Saha said that, unlike previous governments, the NDA government has not only focused on launching new initiatives but also on ensuring 100 per cent saturation and proper monitoring at the grassroots level.

Under the new scheme, 100 low-productivity districts with poor irrigation facilities and limited access to agricultural credit have been identified for extensive agricultural development.

CM Saha said, “The average food grain production in Tripura is 3,052 kg per hectare, while North Tripura lags behind at 2,207 kg per hectare. These new schemes will help bridge that gap through better irrigation, credit access and modern farming techniques.”

The projects spanning six years from financial year 2025-26 to 2030-31 will involve coordination between 11 departments including fisheries, animal resources development, cooperation, food processing, rural development, skill development, MSME and land resources to implement 36 sub-projects focusing on infrastructure, agricultural credit, skill training and market linkages.

While the PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana will focus on boosting productivity, crop diversification, irrigation and storage, the Self-Reliance in Pulses Mission aims to increase farmers’ income and achieve self-reliance in pulses production.

During the programme, Chief Minister Saha also honored progressive farmers and representatives of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) who have made significant contributions to the agriculture sector of Tripura.

CM Saha said, “These initiatives reflect Prime Minister Modi’s commitment to the welfare of the farming community and will help make Indian agriculture globally competitive.”
