Kolkata, October 11 (IANS) An elderly man brutally murdered his wife with a sharp weapon and later surrendered before the police in Durgapur in West Burdwan district. Police gave this information on Saturday.
The incident happened last night in Dhobighat area of Durgapur police station. Police have arrested the accused, who has been identified as Durgadas Kar (75). He is a tutor by profession. The name of the deceased woman is Mukul Kar (65). The couple’s only child is Shantanu Kar.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Durgapur Divisional Hospital for post-mortem. Durgapur police station has started investigation to find out the reason for this brutal murder.
Asansol-Durgapur ACP (Durgapur) Subir Roy said that the accused himself said that his wife neglected him and did not take care of him, she did not even feed him properly.
ACP Roy said, “Once the autopsy report comes, it will be known how the murder was committed. We are investigating it thoroughly. We are interrogating the accused. The investigation is on to find out if anyone else was involved in the incident.”
Shantanu Kar, son of the accused elderly man, said, “My father had tried to kill me and my mother many times before. In previous incidents, we had managed to save ourselves. My father would get angry if his hat fell. If there was even a small stain on the roti, he would scold my mother. My father also could not tolerate me. I have heard that my father had married another woman earlier also. I don’t know where he got married.”
According to him, he was teaching tuition when neighbors called him and informed him about the incident.
The son said, “When I came home, I saw that my mother had glass pieces all over her body. My mother was first beaten with a photo frame, then my father cut her with a sharp weapon. I don’t know if anyone else was involved with my father or not. I want exemplary punishment for my father.”
