The removal of conservation scaffolding from the western side of the Parthenon, completed in late September, is particularly significant.
This elevation provides the most prominent street-level perspective, making its new clarity particularly noticeable.
Culture Minister Lina Mendoni highlighted that this moment is the first time in almost 200 years that the entire exterior of the Parthenon is completely free of scaffolding of any kind.
Speaking on Sky Radio on Friday, Ms Mendoni commented that for visitors, “it’s like they’re seeing a different, a completely different memorial.”

However, this rare period of unblemished sightings will be temporary, as necessary conservation efforts continue.
New scaffolding is to be built on the western side of the Parthenon in about a month’s time, but it will be “lighter and aesthetically much closer to the logic of the monument”, Mendoni said.
The renewed conservation work is expected to last until the beginning of summer 2026.
The minister said: “The Parthenon will also be completely freed of this scaffolding, and people will be able to see it really freely.”
