The intelligence unit of Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate armed the accountant, identified as Rajeev Ranjan Kumar of Bihar.
According to the Bidhannagar police, Rajeev Ranjan, who unsuccessfully contested the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections from Sasaram constituency as a Bharatiya Sablog Party candidate, was arrested in connection with two separate fraud cases registered at the Salt Lake East police station here in September.

For the last few months, he was living in a house in the Salt Lake area of Kolkata. He had set up a base there and ran a business that allegedly defrauded people and embezzled crores of rupees.
