New Delhi, October 11 (IANS) Launching a scathing attack on Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Congress Uttar Pradesh president Ajay Rai on Saturday said the BJP government is using the infiltration issue as a divisive political tool instead of taking responsibility for the rising tension and internal unrest.
Responding to Home Minister Shah’s recent comments on infiltration, Ajay Rai said, “If things are getting worse, it shows your failure. You are the responsible minister, and Prime Minister is Modi. So, if the situation is worsening, who is accountable? It is you.”
He said, “Why are you misleading the public? Because of you unrest is increasing. This seems to be done deliberately, aimed at spreading propaganda, dividing people between Hindus and Muslims and creating anarchy across the country.”
Ajay Rai’s comments come after Home Minister Shah, while addressing the Narendra Mohan Memorial Lecture in New Delhi, claimed that infiltration in India is a threat to democracy and accused opposition parties of considering infiltrators as vote banks.
Home Minister Shah had said, “Infiltration is not a political issue but a national issue.” “Why is there no infiltration on the Gujarat and Rajasthan borders?”
His remarks were made during a lecture titled ‘Infiltration, Demographic Change and Democracy’.
However, the Congress Party has taken a strong step. Congress leader Rashid Alvi accused Home Minister Shah of misrepresenting the facts.
“The difference between Muslim and Hindu population is barely one or two per cent. Amit Shah should clarify how many illegals there are. The government has no concrete figures, only hollow claims.”
Congress spokesperson Surendra Rajput also attacked Home Minister Shah, saying, “You rank 140th in per capita income. 800 million people in India survive on five kilos of grain. Do you think people are coming here for this? Stop raising slogans and explain why our borders are weak even after 11 years of you being in power. BJP spreads Hindu-Muslim divide only for votes.”
