Bengaluru, Oct 10 (IANS) Karnataka BJP president BY Vijayendra on Friday criticized the state government for taking a “hasty” decision on conducting the caste census without “adequate” preparation.
Speaking to media persons at Vidhana Soudha, BJP MLA Vijayendra said even teachers appointed as enumerators were facing difficulties due to “poor” planning.
“Extending holidays for census is causing problems to rural students, especially those studying in government schools. Every day of school is important for these children, yet the government has announced unnecessary holidays, disrupting their education,” he said.
Vijayendra further alleged that the government had called the first meeting of the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) without sharing the agenda of the meeting with the MLAs.
He commented, “They are meeting in secret, without any transparency. They talk about holding elections in December – but where is the preparation? How many officials will be appointed? What about infrastructure? There is no ground work at all. They are making politically motivated announcements without any planning.”
Taking aim at the government’s failure to maintain Bengaluru’s roads, Vijayendra said, “The people of Bengaluru are disappointed with this government. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar is busy counting potholes near Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence and elsewhere, while Bengaluru citizens are struggling to find roads amid the potholes.”
“The government talks about London and the Prime Minister, but shouldn’t they fix Bengaluru first? The people of this city are demanding immediate action to repair the roads, not empty promises,” he said.
“Farmers are already in distress, and now heavy rains have worsened their condition in North Karnataka. Yet the agriculture and revenue ministers have not even visited the affected areas. If he does not have time to meet the suffering farmers, why should he remain a minister?” He asked question.
“If the opposition leaders and I had not visited the flood-affected areas of Kalyan Karnataka, the Chief Minister would have been sitting comfortably in his air-conditioned office taking decisions through video conference. We visited Bidar, Kalaburagi, Raichur and Yadgir, while opposition leader R. Ashok and others went to Belagavi and Bagalkot. The government should take immediate action to compensate the farmers – they cannot be made to wait indefinitely. Even Agriculture Minister Krishna Byre Gowda’s promise to release compensation within 10 days has not been fulfilled.”
Commenting on the MySugar factory issue in Mandya, Vijayendra said that there is confusion. He also hinted that BJP members may not attend the GBA meeting, saying, “What is the point of attending the meeting when the agenda is not shared? Even ruling party MLAs are protesting the way it is being handled. The government is more interested in bridging internal rifts rather than serving the people. It has become an administration jointly run with the real estate mafia.”
Responding to questions about political developments, Vijayendra said, “Looking at the reactions of Congress ministers and MLAs, it is clear that all is not well within the ruling party. Even Congress insiders believe that the current political developments will reach their logical conclusion after the Bihar elections.”
