Guwahati, Oct 10 (IANS) In a significant development in the investigation into Zubeen Garg’s death, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Friday arrested two of his personal security officers (PSOs), identified as Nandeshwar Bora and Paresh Baishya, taking the number of arrests in the case related to the death of the iconic Assamese singer to 7. He has been sent to police custody for 5 days.
The arrests came after the duo were interrogated for four consecutive days by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) monitoring the high-profile case.
Both the PSOs were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court, where the SIT sought their 14-day custody for further interrogation. However, the court granted five-day police custody of those arrested.
Sources said the arrests were made following his suspension on October 7 after allegations of serious financial irregularities emerged.
The CID had been investigating the duo for several days amid suspicion of misappropriation of funds linked to the late singer’s finances.
The investigators have reportedly unearthed substantial evidence of huge financial transactions worth several crores of rupees linked to the bank accounts of two PSOs.
Preliminary findings show that transactions worth around ₹70 lakh were traced to Nandeshwar Bora’s account, while around ₹40 lakh was linked to Paresh Baishya.
These transfers were allegedly made through digital payment channels and are suspected to involve money from Zubeen Garg.
Officials said the SIT is now probing whether the duo had any direct role in managing Garg’s financial affairs or diverting his money.
He said the arrests could provide important clues in understanding the financial aspects surrounding the singer’s death.
With Friday’s developments, the total number of people arrested in connection with the case has reached 7.
Earlier, Assam Police officer and cousin of Zubeen Garg was sent to 7 days of police custody after his arrest.
The late iconic singer’s cousin Sandipan Garg is a Deputy Superintendent in the Assam Police Service and he was also at the yacht party in Singapore on September 19, where the music maestro tragically died while swimming in the sea.
Zubeen Garg went to Singapore to attend the Northeast India Music Festival and Sandipan Garg also accompanied him to enjoy the event.
