thomas tuchel Felt England players deserved more support wales He hit out at the “silent” Wembley crowd after Thursday’s 3-0 friendly win.
The packed house saw the Euro 2024 runners-up move on from where they left off in Serbia last month morgan rogers He opened his international account just 130 seconds into the game.
Ollie Watkins put in England further and further from bukayo A brilliant third added in the 20th minute, but Wales avoided further humiliation and Tuchel expressed his frustration to the Wembley faithful.
“We performed very well,” he told ITV. “We had a very good first half, we were 3-0 up very early but could have been up by four or five at half-time.
“Then we couldn’t score the fourth or fifth goal. There was silence in the stadium. Silence.”
“We never got any energy back from the fans and I think the players did a lot to get more from the fans.
“So, it was difficult to keep everything going in the second half, but we performed well, we deserved to win. The next step is in the right direction.”
Asked if he expected more from Wembley, Tuchel replied: “Yes, what more can you give in 20 minutes? Three goals, the way we attacked Wales and didn’t let them get away.
“Even in their own half, winning ball after ball, winning ball after ball. If you just listen to the Wales fans for half an hour, yes, it’s a bit sad because I think the team deserved big support today.”
Tuchel seemed as surprised by the atmosphere as he was by the first question in the post-match press conference which revolved around his comments about it.
“That’s your first question after that? OK,” said the England boss. “Good chance to explain myself.
“First of all, I said the support in Serbia when we played last time was absolutely fantastic. I said it and I meant it.
“I love English football and I love English football fans and their support. But I think the atmosphere today doesn’t match the performance on the field.”
Tuchel is confident he will once again be in great support in Latvia when England resume World Cup qualification on Tuesday, just as he believes they will be next summer.
“Today we were 3-0 up after 20 minutes, we had balls coming one after another and I thought ‘Why is there still a roof on the stadium?’ That’s all,” he said. “It’s no big deal.
“That could have helped us regain some energy and momentum in the second half as well. That wasn’t the case today, so no problem.”
“We will do everything again to be infectious. No problem.”
“Like I said, I really mean it, I’m sure we’ll push everyone forward, it’s on us. But today I was a little disappointed.”
