Jaipur, Oct 9 (IANS) Bundi police in Rajasthan have taken the first action under Section 107 of the Indian Civil Security Code (BNSS) – the new criminal procedure law – by seizing property worth Rs 12 crore acquired through illegal prostitution operations, police said on Thursday.
Police said in a statement that the operation was carried out under the direction of Superintendent of Police Rajendra Kumar Meena and under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police Uma Sharma, under the leadership of station in-charge Ramesh Chand Arya.
Police said that the accused Banwari Shekhar Bairwa (36), resident of Jhuwansa, was born in an ordinary laborer family. In 2004, he moved to Kota, where he worked as a cook in a local hotel.
“After a brief stay in Indore, he returned to Bundi in 2013 and entered the roadside dhaba business. However, lured by the greed to earn quick money, Banwari soon descended into the illegal world of prostitution,” police said.
Police said, “What started as a small-scale operation turned into a well-organized criminal enterprise, which allowed him to accumulate wealth rapidly. In a matter of a few years, he went from being a slum dweller to owning a luxurious multi-storey hotel, high-end vehicles and several properties.”
Operating under the name of Welcome Hotel, Banwari and his wife Kiran started providing illegal services in 2015 under the guise of a dhaba they rented in Ramganj Balaji, the police statement said.
Police reported that the couple provided women to customers at night – who were often intoxicated or looking for illicit entertainment, which significantly increased their earnings.
Police also emphasized that with the profits from this operation, Banwari built a high-end hotel with underground rooms, designed to prevent unauthorized entry.
“He started trafficking women from neighboring states and even abroad, setting up a full-fledged prostitution racket. The illegal proceeds were used to buy two luxury cars and three motorcycles, a multi-storey residence in Ramganj Balaji, a hotel on the National Highway, agricultural and commercial land worth crores and deposits of crores of rupees in several bank accounts,” the statement said.
It said SHO Ramesh Chand Arya led a comprehensive investigation by collecting detailed records and valuation of movable and immovable properties of Banwari Shekhar in coordination with the Revenue Department, PWD and Transport Department.
“A formal petition was then filed by the SP office before the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Bundi, who ordered confiscation of properties worth Rs 12 crore of Banwari and his wife Kiran,” the police statement said.
Superintendent of Police Rajendra Kumar Meena stressed that this action reflects the Bundi Police’s commitment to tackling the root causes of organized crime, the police said:
“This is not just about punishing an individual, but about sending a clear message to the entire criminal ecosystem. The goal is to instill confidence in the public and fear among criminals. Such bold and legitimate actions will continue as part of our crime eradication campaign,” the police statement said.
