On the counter-terrorism front, security forces and police are aggressively carrying out operations to target terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs) and supporters.
The coordinated operations are aimed at destroying the entire ecosystem of terror in Jammu and Kashmir rather than just eliminating gun-toting terrorists. Drug traffickers, drug smugglers and those involved in the hawala money racket are also under the scanner of the security forces, as it is believed that the money generated from these crimes is ultimately used to maintain terrorism in the UT.
While security forces deal with terrorism in the hinterland, the Army and the Border Security Force (BSF) guard the Line of Control (LOC) and the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Army guards the 740-km long LoC while the BSF guards the 240-km-long IB in the union territory.
