Patna, Oct 9 (IANS) Election strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraj Party on Thursday released its first list of candidates for the upcoming Bihar assembly elections, indicating a clear focus on backward castes, professionals and candidates with clean images.

According to party insiders, Prashant Kishor is focusing his campaign on the vision of a corruption-free and developed Bihar and the first list reflects that ideology.

Many of the candidates are former bureaucrats, academics, doctors and lawyers, selected for their reputation and integrity rather than traditional political clout. Among the prominent candidates, famous mathematician KC Sinha has been fielded from Kumhrar (Patna).

A former vice-chancellor of several universities, Sinha’s mathematics textbooks have been taught in schools in Bihar for more than three decades.

Having written more than 70 books, he is widely recognized among students and teachers across the state.

Senior Patna High Court lawyer YB Giri, who has argued several high-profile cases, including the alleged BPSC paper leak case, has also been included in the list.

Former Himachal Pradesh DGP JP Singh, a 2000 batch IPS officer who has taken voluntary retirement and has been active in Chapra for the past year, is among the high-profile figures in the party.

Motihari-based physician Dr BB Prasad, known for his social work, and his wife – also a doctor – have long been associated with the Jan Suraj movement.

Well-known doctor of Muzaffarpur, Dr. Amit Kumar Das has been made the party’s candidate from the same seat.

Former DG (Home Guard) RK Mishra, who has been a prominent member of Jan Suraj since its inception, is also contesting the elections this time.

Mishra has played an important role in including retired bureaucrats in the party.

The list also includes candidates from diverse social and professional backgrounds.

Preeti K, representing the transgender community, has been fielded from Bhore (SC) in Gopalganj.

Ritesh Ranjan Pandey, a popular Bhojpuri singer, will contest from Kargahar (Rohtas).

Lata Singh, daughter of former Union Minister RCP Singh, will contest elections from Asthawan (Nalanda).

Party sources said that “the list is the first step in Jan Suraj’s effort to rewrite Bihar politics by moving away from traditional caste equations and focusing on governance, transparency and grassroots credibility.”
