Kolkata, October 9 (IANS) Six Bangladeshis were arrested from two different places in Domkal subdivision of Murshidabad district on Thursday morning. Murshidabad police arrested them from Bhatshala area under Domkal police station and Harudanga border area under Raninagar police station.
Police recovered two mobile phones with Bangladeshi SIM cards from them. Police are investigating their motive behind coming to India and whether there are other people in the district who have already entered the country illegally through the India-Bangladesh border.
According to police sources, the team of Domkal police station in Murshidabad conducted several raids based on secret information.
At that time, the police had arrested two people named Akash Shaikh (20) and Rabi Shaikh alias Saun Shaikh (19) from Bhatshala area. The arrested people are residents of Kishoreganj village in Karimganj district of Bangladesh.
On the other hand, the police of Rani Nagar police station raided the border village Harudanga and arrested four people. They have been identified as Mohammad Tariqul Islam (30), Mohammad Jasimuddin (29), Mohammad Noor Islam (36) and Mohammad Rabiul Islam. His home is in Sahraagachhi village of Godagari police station in Rajshahi district of Bangladesh.
Police said the Bangladeshis crossed the border and entered India without any valid documents. A senior Murshidabad district police official said, “The arrested people said during interrogation that they had come to India in search of work. A case has been registered against the arrested people under the illegal entry section. They will be produced in the court later. We will seek their custody for further investigation in the case.”
The police have also started investigating how they entered the country and whether any other gang is also involved in this incident. The police officer said, “The entire matter is being investigated. After taking them into custody, we will be able to know more about their motive behind coming here.”
