A Florida man is accused of pointing a gun at a group of children after they made noise near his boat

Christopher Evensen, 43, was rowing his boat on the Intracoastal Waterway on Florida’s east coast Saturday when children woke up nearby, causing Evensen to become “irritable,” the New Smyrna Beach Police Department said in a recent Facebook post. PostCiting victims’ accounts.

According to a police report obtained by the local outlet WSVNCellphone footage of the incident showed a man on the boat placing a silver and black object in his pocket that resembled a “semi-automatic handgun.”

Witness Kevin Buchans, who said he did not see the gun, told WSVN, “He was threatening them all, ‘Come here to the boat ramp, park your boat, and I’ll kill you all.'”

“He’s an adult, he should know better,” Bunchans said.

New Smyrna Beach police said Evenson was seen chasing his boat after the alleged incident, and police eventually found his car at a local home. He was arrested and charged with five counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and improper display of a dangerous weapon.

According to WSVN, Evensen admitted to police that he had yelled at the children and acted “stupidly”, but denied the weapon claim, saying he did not have a gun. The outlet said Evenson initially told officers he did not have a gun, but later said that was a lie.

It is unclear whether Evenson has legal representation.

Shortly after Evenson yelled at the children, Buchans said, he offered her whiskey.

“You might have been arguing with these other guys on the boat because it looked like you already had too much to drink,” Buchans recalled.

Evenson was taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail and local outlet WESH He said he has posted his $25,500 bail.
