Patna, Oct 8 (IANS) Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) chief and Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi on Wednesday said there is no resentment and resentment within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA); However, he warned that his party would not contest the upcoming elections if its demand of 15 seats was not met.
Hours after posting a cryptic tweet this morning, the HAM chief told reporters that he was just demanding his rights and also explained the logic behind sticking to the demand for 15 seats.
He said his political organization has faced the infamy of not being a recognized party for a long time, and unless the NDA addresses the issue, there would be no point for him in contesting the elections.
He said, “How long will we continue to endure this humiliation? Those who have just one or two MLAs consider themselves superior. If the NDA strengthens us, we will become stronger.”
Explaining the logic behind the demand for 15 seats, he said that his party has always stood with the NDA and it is the duty of the NDA to end this disgrace.
He said, “In the last assembly elections, we got seven seats and won four seats at a strike rate of 60 per cent. If we get 15 seats this time, the same strike rate would mean a win for HAM on at least eight seats. This will help us get our party recognized by the Election Commission.”
“If we don’t get this, the party will not get recognition, so what is the point of contesting the elections?” He added.
However, Jitan Ram Manjhi rejected any speculation of leaving the alliance if his demands were not met.
He said, “We will remain with the NDA. There is no question of separation from the NDA.”
He said the party has a support base of 20,000 to 30,000 voters on 70-80 seats and even if the party contests alone, it will be able to get 6 per cent of the votes.
Meanwhile, JDU national spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan, on the ongoing tussle over seat sharing within the NDA, said that all parties have expectations regarding seat sharing.
He said there is no confusion within the NDA and an official announcement will be made soon.
