New Delhi, 8 October (IANS) turned his childhood love for Lotus flower into a remarkable entrepreneurial journey, Tongbram Bijashanti Devi from Manipur has created a prosperous business by empowering women in her community.
The young innovator, who lives in Bishenpur district, praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for efforts to promote women empowerment and driving progress in the northeast.
Start-up Sanazing Sana Thumbal founder Bijayashanti has converted Kamal’s stems into a source of sustainable livelihood for local women.
His initiative, innovation and tradition, are providing employment to women who work from their homes near the picturesque Loktak Lake – the largest freshwater lake in north -pre -India, which is known for the abundance of lotus plants.
Speaking to IANS, Bijayashanti said, “I make clothes from Lotus. This is our national flower. We grow lotus in Lokek Lake, which is a freshwater lake in the Northeast. PM Modi mentioned me in the ‘Maan Ki Butt’ program in 2020 and appreciated our work and innovation.”
Expressing praise for the leadership of the Prime Minister, he said, “It is great that she is doing a lot for women empowerment. He has done a lot of work to strengthen our economy and develop our nation.”
Currently in Delhi, ‘Weaving India Together: Natural Fiber, Innovation, and North East and Beyond to participate in the National Conclave on livelihood, Bijayanthi reflected how his journey was painted in Prime Minister Modi’s monthly radio address,’ Mann Ki Butt ‘.
The Prime Minister appreciated him for his unique initiative to make fiber from the stems of Lotus, called it an example of the innovation initant in India’s cultural heritage.
His relationship with the Prime Minister continued when in 2023, during the 100th episode of ‘Maan Ki Baat’, PM Modi personally spoke to him again, congratulated him on his growing venture.
“In such a short period, you have reached the 30-person team!” The Prime Minister said during his conversation.
Responding to that, Bijayanthi expressed the determination to expand his workforce, aiming to attach 100 women to his venture. He also thanked the Prime Minister for bringing his innovation in national headlines.
He said, “Everyone knows about the Lotus Stem Fiber from the program ‘Maan Ki Baat’.
Bijishanti’s visit began in 2014 when the idea of making yarn from Lotus hit him for the first time. It was determined to change his idea into reality, spent about four years on research and training in 2018 before launching Sana Thumbal.
Since then, his company has not only created a place in the field of permanent textiles, but has also become a model for women -led entrepreneurship in the Northeast.
Their initiative has created a wave effect in his community, encouraging more women to follow the suit and become financially independent.
Many of his employees work from home, which allows them to balance family responsibilities by contributing to domestic income. Bijayashanti’s long -term vision is to increase production and bring the unique lotus fibers of Manipur to the global markets.
Meanwhile, members of his team also credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to change the development scenario of the Northeast.
One of the associates of Bijyashanti, Gurumem Jiteshwari Devi told IANS, “There is development in the Northeast. Earlier, only some people of our community used to go to Delhi, and were unaware of most available opportunities.
