While a dopamine detox may feel intense, most people will not experience any meaningful, permanent improvement by avoiding one or two days. Dopamine regulation is a complex process affected by many factors, and it does not suddenly pass through the reset in a 24 -hour short period.

Research suggests that after the period of restraint, old habits and urges often return, until people actively create a new routine and combat the strategies that attach healthy reward routes.

So what can you do instead?

If you want to change your relationship with dopamine-operated behavior or substances, be ready for it to take 24 hours more time.

Replacement of “fast dopamine” awards with “slow dopamine” activities can gradually restore the sensitivity of the brain for happiness and helps to make life feel rich again.

This may involve returning to activities that require naturally more patience and effort, such as creative projects, exercise or learning something new.

These activities can activate dopamine routes, as well as release of other neurotransmitters, such as oxytocin and serotonin, which contribute to a positive mood.

The popularity of dopamine detox reflects the desire to re -connect with pleasures in the world overloaded by excretion and excitement. But there is no reset button for the brain’s dopamine system. Fortunately, we can pull ourselves with movement, music, connections and other ways.
