Jaipur, Oct 8 (IANS) Climate activist and social worker Sonam Wangchuk, who has been in Jodhpur Central Jail for the last 11 days, was met by his wife Geetanjali for the first time after his arrest.
This meeting took place on Tuesday and lawyer Ritam Khare was also with him.

He affirmed that Wangchuk is strong in spirit and committed to fighting for the rights of Ladakh. He also expressed his gratitude to the supporters across the country.
Wangchuk was detained under the National Security Act (NSA) on September 24 after violence broke out in Ladakh during protests, leaving four dead and nearly two dozen injured. A BJP office was set on fire and several police officers were injured during the clashes. The Ladakh administration has accused Wangchuk of inciting violence, promoting self-immolation and financial irregularities.
Before Gitanjali’s visit, her elder brother Tsetan Dorje and Leh apex body’s legal advisor Mustafa Haji also visited her in jail.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has issued notices to the Center and Ladakh administration raising questions on the basis of Wangchuk’s continued detention.
The court asked why he could not be released immediately.
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing Geetanjali in the court, requested that the arrest order be shared with the family and the jail visit be allowed.
The court said the matter would be considered only if a formal request for a meeting was rejected.
The arrest of Wangchuk, a longtime advocate for climate action and indigenous rights, has sparked a national debate. The next hearing is scheduled for October 14, while officials say strict action is necessary against those involved in the recent violence.
