The survey found that young people are the most affected by the “damage caused by alcohol at the workplace”. About 43 percent of the youth aged 18 to 24 said that they fell ill after drinking alcohol in the program related to work.

More than a third of the youth felt the pressure to drink alcohol to stay fit, showing that drinking alcohol at the workplace continues “cultural pressure”.

One of the five respondents thought that he had said something to a colleague for which he is sorry, or a thing about a colleague for which he is sorry. More than a quarter of the people said that they had heard something they should not hear.

In more severe cases, more than one-third of respondents believe that drinking alcohol at the workplace increases the risk of harmful or risky behavior, and 22 percent has added it to a large risk of sexual harassment, threatening or intimidation.

Although the workplace is not doing much to solve the issue, more than half of the employees have stated that their workplace has not provided any inclusive options such as alcohol-free social. But 73 percent of the people in the survey believe that it is the responsibility of employers to address the damage caused by alcohol.

Health chief Sebastian Rice in IPPR said, “Employers have a big opportunity here. By going away from alcohol-focused cultures and by giving real support, they can promote good, improve performance and create more inclusive workplaces.”
