dallas Owner jerry jones His obscene gesture toward fans at MetLife Stadium at the end of the 37–22 victory over New York Jets This was unintentional and was intended as a “thumbs up” to celebrate Cowboys fans.
Jones was seen in a video that went viral on Sunday smiling widely while pointing at fans before briefly walking away. He said on his radio show Tuesday that he was talking to Dallas fans, not Jets fans.
“It was unfortunate. It was kind of an exchange with our fans in front of us,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan. “There was a bunch of Cowboys fans in front – not Jets fans, Cowboys fans. The whole stadium was filled with Cowboys cheer and of course the game started late.”
The league did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
“(The gesture) was unintentional on my part because it was right after our last touchdown, and we were all excited about it,” Jones said. “There was no conflict issue or anything like that. I just misperformed. It was unintentional. I’m not kidding. If you want to call it accidental, you can call it accidental. But it got fixed very quickly. I got a chance to see it. It got fixed very quickly, but the intention was ‘thumbs up,’ and basically pointing at our fans because everyone was jumping up and down excitedly.”
At the end of the 2024 season, nfl Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper was fined for throwing drinks at fans in Jacksonville.
