New Delhi, October 7 (IANS) Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has ended the hunting bungalow number 95 for a new official residence, said by party and official sources on Tuesday.
After inspection of the bungalow on Monday, Kejriwal is likely to settle for the type 7 bungalow that the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs allocated him under Kota for national presidents of recognized political parties.
Kejriwal was previously monitored at a nearby bungalow, earlier in the possession of Mayawati, the head of Bahujan Samaj Party. However, during the hearing of an AAP petition in the Delhi High Court, demanding an official house for Kejriwal, the Center told the court that the 35 was allotted the Union Minister of State (MOS) for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, currently used by Type 7 Bungalow, Lodhi Estate, Lodhi Estate, which was previously used by Mayawati.
The AAP was demanding a government residence for Kejriwal in the national capital, given the fact that he is the president of a recognized national party.
In his petition, it cited guidelines for the allocation of housing, which suggests that the president of a recognized national party deserves a government residence in Delhi, if he is neither the owner of the house nor allotted in any other official capacity.
On 25 September, the Center informed the court about its plan to allocate Kejriwal ‘suitable’ bungalow in the next 10 days.
Justice Sachin Dutta was presented by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who said an order would be passed after taking his statement on the record.
Lawyer Rahul Mehra, who represented AAP, demanded the allocation of type 8 or type 7 bungalow for Kejriwal, claiming election by Solicitor General, who said that common people do not fight for type 8 bungalows.
However, he assured the court that Kejriwal would be allotted a ‘suitable’ government bungalow in Delhi within the next 10 days as per the rules.
Kejriwal was informed about the allocation of bungalow number 95, Lodhi Estate by officials on Monday, inspecting and approving the residence of four-bedroom, including the office, a lawn, a garage and space for three servants, a party leader said.
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor will be Kejriwal’s neighbor as he captures bungalow number 97.
Currently, Kejriwal 5, a MP on Ferozeshh Road, is living in a bungalow, which has been allotted to Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Mittal.
After losing the assembly elections in February, he was allotted as the Chief Minister of Delhi in North Delhi in November 2024.
