New Delhi: While Bihar prepares for the high-voltage assembly elections in a month from now, the popular folk singer Maithili Thakur is likely to make his political debut in the upcoming elections, potentially contests elections on BJP ticket from his home district, Darbhanga. Talking to the press after meeting BJP leaders including Nityanand Rai and Vinod Tawde, he commented that his favorite political leader is Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Thakur, known for promoting Maithili culture and folk music, confirmed that there was a discussion with senior BJP leaders, however, nothing has been finalized about him in Bihar politics.
Speaking to the media, Thakur said, “We met Nityanand Rai and Vinod Tawade and discussed many matters related to the development of Bihar.”
Thakur praised him for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, called him his inspiration.
“He is my favorite leader and political person. The way he connects with people, I think no other leader can match him in that regard. When he starts speaking, two hours pass so quickly that it seems as if the conversation has just begun.”
When asked about their political priorities, the young singer said, “I like the BJP because my ideology matches the party and I want the development of the nation. And if I start from my village, nothing will be bigger than this.”
Thakur revealed that the idea of entering politics has recently taken shape.
He said, “The idea of contesting elections had never crossed my mind before, but gradually started taking this shape. In the last four days, especially after meeting two senior leaders, the idea has gained momentum,” he said.
Exposing the changes that Bihar has seen, he recalled the migration during the RJD era, “My father and many of his generations saw the period of ‘Jungle Raj’.
Commenting on women empowerment, she said, “Everyone knows the situation of women back. But now, women are able to get out with confidence, and they are progressing.”
On the opposition’s allegations regarding vote manipulation, Thakur rejected him firmly: “There is no such thing. People are liking CM Nitish Kumar and trusting him.”
The seat-sharing within the NDA alliance is yet to be finalized, and the list of candidates has not been announced. The state will go to elections in two phases – 6 and 11 November, and the results will be declared on 14 November.
