Bhubaneswar, 6 October (IANS) In a major success, the Bargarh Police has busted an interstate gang involved in illegal drug trafficking and arms smuggling, informing Superintendent of Police Prahlad Sahai Meena on Monday.
A major operation was launched under the direct supervision of the Bargarh SP, based on illegal cough syrup and transportation, occupation and sale of firearms.
The Bargarh police formed seven police teams, which included officers from Atabira, Rural, Sadar, Town, Bijpur police stations and special squad and were deployed at several places across the district to conduct raids simultaneously.
After the raid, the police have arrested 15 accused persons, out of which three neighbors belong to Chhattisgarh, eight from Bargarh district and one is one from Balangir, Jagat Singhpur, Jajpur and Kandrapara districts in Odisha.
Police have seized 1500 bottles Escoff Cuff Syrup (100 mL each), five country-made pistols with magazines, 20 live ammunition, three empty cartridges cases, 16 mobile phones, five four-wheelers and cash at a price of Rs 57,200.
The Bargarh SP revealed that the accused person is part of an inter-state criminal gang involved in smuggling illegal drugs in Odisha and neighboring states.
He also said that further investigation is underway to detect the broad network of this interstate gang and identify their suppliers, colleagues and distribution routes.
