A New york Judge retained one on Monday long Island County’s law banned transgender women from playing on women’s sports teams in county-run parks and recreational facilities.
In a suit brought by a roller Darby League, Judge Bruce Cozens wrote that Nasau countyThe ban is made “to protect women and girls” and transgender athletes can still play in the co -sports league in county features.
“The court agrees that it is narrowly corresponded to achieve local law objectives and does not clearly exclude transgender individuals from athletic participation,” he wrote. “The law controls access to women and girls’ categories in county run features for organized athletic events.”
Cozzzens refused to temporarily stop the enforcement of the ban, while a case was played.
Roller Derby League, long island roller rebels sued the law, arguing that it had violated anti-state-discrimination laws. The New York Civil Liberty Union, who filed a case on behalf of the League, issued a statement saying it would challenge Monday’s decision.
