New Delhi, October 6 (IANS) Election Commission of India (ECI) said on Monday that Bihar assembly elections will be held on 6 November and 11 November in two phases, which will have the prescribed results for the announcement on 14 November.
Addressing the media, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanash Kumar, Election Commissioner Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, describing the upcoming elections as “mother of all elections”, emphasizing the Commission’s commitment to ensure a peaceful and innocent election process.
Kumar said, “We want to assure the voters of Bihar that elections will not only be exemplary and smooth, but will also be the most peaceful due to special attention to maintaining law and order.”
The Bihar Legislative Assembly consists of 243 constituencies, including 203 Generals, 38 Scheduled Castes (SCs), and 2 Scheduled Tribes (ST) seats.
The state’s voter base is huge.
Bihar has around 7.43 crore registered voters by September 30, 2025.
Of these, about 3.92 crore male voters are voters.
There is also an important youth appearance, with more than 1.63 crore voters 20–29 and 14.01 lakhs for the first time with voters between the ages of 18 and 19.
There will be participation from special groups, including 4.04 lakh senior citizens, 85 years and above, about 14,000 centuries and 7.2 lakh disabled persons (PWDs).
In addition, about 1.63 lakh service voters are registered, which are usually government employees or personnel who are away from their domestic constituencies.
To accommodate ‘large -scale voter voting’, ECI has set up 90,712 polling stations in Bihar – 13,911 in urban areas and 76,801 in rural areas.
All polling stations are equipped with 100 percent webcasting facilities to ensure transparency and monitoring.
Special polling stations are designated as model polling stations (1,350), and are managed by many women (1,044), youth (38), and PWDs (292), reflecting the Commission’s emphasis on inclusive participation.
In view of the diverse geography of Bihar, innovative security and logical measures have been arranged.
In the Diara region, patrols will use horses to cover around 250 polling stations.
Similarly, the boat patrol will be safe around 197 stations located in river or waterfall areas.
Along with attracting acute political rivalry and large voter participation in Bihar elections, the ECI has focused on law and order to prevent any unpleasant incidents.
Chief Election Commissioner Kumar assured the citizens that all necessary steps have been taken to maintain peace and create a favorable environment for free and fair elections.
