Surat, October 6 (IANS) Gari Surat has a long -standing tradition, especially on the occasion of Sharad Purnima. This energetic sweet was introduced for Freedom Fighters in 1838 by Devshankar Shukla. After the rebellion of 1857, it gained popularity after serving Tatya Tope and his soldiers, eventually synonymous with Surat.
Every year, Sharad Purnima is celebrated as Chandi Padwa, during which people in Surat and abroad consume Ghari. This year, special varieties such as Kunaf Gari, Biskup Gari, and even infected with gold and silver are available in the market. Gold-infected Ghari costs Rs 14,000 per kg-one piece costs around Rs 1,400. The price of silver and clan gari varieties is Rs 2,500 per kg, while the Biscuop version is sold at Rs 1,800 per kg.
The characteristic of this ghari lies in its ingredients: it is made of nuts, almonds, pistachios, saffron, cardamom and pure ghee. Talking to IANS, Gaurang Sukhadia said, “Ghari was originally made by Tatya Tope for soldiers as an energy booster. It is made with nuts, almonds, saffron and pure ghee. We introduced the gold gari during the Kovid period for the first time. As gold prices are quite high, we have also made a silver ghari.
Sharad Joshi, a customer from Surat, said, “I came here to buy Ghari. I like to try a variety of efforts. Quality is good, and I always buy gold ghats. People like to enjoy Ghari during Sharad Purnima.”
Gari, or Surti Gari, Puri Batter, Mawa (Milk solid), a sweet Gujarati made of ghee and sugar is delicate. It is molded into round shapes with sweet filling and especially prepared during the Chandni Padwa festival. It is available in various tastes, including pistachios, almond-cardamom and mawa.
Sharad Purnima, the whole moon night when the moon is the brightest shines and the closest to the Earth, falls on Monday. One of the most spiritually powerful nights of the year is considered, the moon is considered to radiate the divine nectar (nectar). Traditionally, people prepare kheer and place it under the moonlight to absorb these blessings.
