The first snowfall of Srinagar, 6 October (IANS) season occurred on the high reach of the Kashmir Valley on Monday as all schools in Jammu and Kashmir’s Jammu Division were closed due to torrential rains.
Meteorological Department (MET) officials said the first snowfall of the weather took place in Gulmarg Hill Station, Zojila Pass, Razdan Pass, Pit’s street and other high reach of the valley, and the grounds received heavy rains during the last 12 hours.
Authorities ordered the closure of all schools on 6 and 7 October in Jammu Division due to an adverse weather forecast.
Farmers have been advised to suspend agricultural activities on October 6 and 7.
In weak areas, landslides/mudslides/shooting stone/thunder/hailstorm/hailstorm have been predicted.
The Disaster Management Department is directed to be prepared to deal with any adverse development which may be due to continuous rains, etc.
In Jammu and Kashmir, day temperature has put a shrub in the plains from the top of the mountain worn with snow due to heavy cloud cover and cold winds.
The Met Department said that the minimum temperature in Srinagar city was 10.5 degrees Celsius, while it was 3 degrees and 6.8 degrees in Gulmarg and Pahgam respectively.
The city of Jammu had 15.5, Katra Town 13.5, Batot 7.7, Banihal had 9.1, and Bhadirwah had 8 as a minimum temperature.
In the valley, people have started wearing woolen clothes in cities and towns, while local people in rural areas are seen wearing traditional tweed on a garment called ‘Ferran’.
In the morning and evening, every passing day has started cooling, it shows that the autumn season will soon make way for cold winter in Kashmir.
Hundreds of migratory birds have started reaching the valley to spend the winter months in comparatively warm climate from their summer homes in China, Siberia, Central Asia and Eastern Europe.
Most species of migratory birds coming to Kashmir to spend in winter months, Chaiti, Gadwall, Eurasian Wigon, Northern Cher, Northern Pintale, Mallad, Tuffed-Dak, Feruginus Duck, Common Porchide, Red-Creasted Pochs, Long-Wokes Shack, Rudy Duck, Rudy Shield, Common Shaman, Koman Shake Sheld, Common Sheld, Common Sheld, Common Sheld, Common Sheld, Common Sheld, Common Sheld, Common Sheld, Common Shelk, Common Sheeld, Gong and Gowye with Gowye.
In addition, there are some birds’ routes, such as commercials and sandhill cranes, which come to Indian grounds from their winter homes and to spend a few days in winter and spring during their passage.
