Jaipur, October 6 (IANS) Rajasthan government on Monday confirmed that six people lost their lives in the fire, which broke at the Splash Center of Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital, Jaipur.
Following initial reports from hospital sources, there was an official confirmation that Death had increased to eight.
State officials have now clarified that six deaths have been verified.
In a statement on Monday, the state health department nominated the deceased as Pintu (25) from Sakar, Dilip (40), Bharatpur to Shri Nath (54), Bharatpur, Bahadur (40) to Jaipur to Jaipur and Kusuma (54).
These people were among the seriously ill patients admitted to the neurosurgery ICU-1 at the time of the incident late on Sunday night.
According to hospital officials, the fire broke out at around 11.20 am on Sunday, it is believed to be due to a short circuit in the ICU storeroom.
The room quickly filled with dense smoke, causing chaos and suffocation in the ICU. At that time there were 11 patients in Neuro ICU; All were evacuated, but six succumbed, allegedly smoking and related complications.
Trauma and orthopedic institutes within the SMS hospital have a total of 284 beds, including 46 ICU beds and six common wards where about 250 patients are kept at any time.
The hospital also operates eight operation theater, which performs 40 to 60 surgery per day, highlights the important role of convenience in emergency and trauma care. Officials said the fire brigade, hospital staff, local civil security volunteers and police administration played an important role in preventing the fire and preventing it from spreading to the ICU and nearby wards.
The state government has started an official inquiry into the incident.
A forensic science laboratory (FSL) team has already started collecting evidence to determine the accurate reason and identify any laps in the security protocol.
This tragedy has raised serious questions about the infrastructure and emergency preparations of the hospital in one of the largest and busy medical institutions in Rajasthan, the victim’s family members said that those who were sitting on a dharna were demanding justice in the incident.
