New Delhi, October 6 (IANS) Election Commission (ECI) is likely to announce the program for Bihar assembly elections at 4 pm on Monday, which marks the beginning of an important political phase in the state.
An announcement can be made during a press briefing led by Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi under the leadership of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanash Kumar.
The poll panel delegation came just a day after the delegation of the poll panel reviewing the preparations for the election in Bihar, meeting with representatives of all major political parties and assessing logical arrangements.
The word of the present Bihar assembly ends on 22 November, which means that elections should be held before that date.
Sources indicate that the schedule will be carefully planned to avoid overlapping with major festivals such as Diwali and Chhath, which come between October 18 and October 28. The purpose of this idea is to ensure smooth voting and maximum voter voting.
The 2025 elections are expected to have a high-dot competition between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Janata Dal (United) ruling coalition, and the opposition alliance, known as Mahagatdanan, led under the leadership of Rashtria Janata Dal and Congress.
Prashant Kishore’s Jan Suraj Party, adding a new dimension to the race, is keeping herself in a position as an alternative force in Bihar politics.
In the last assembly elections held in 2020, the National Democratic Alliance won a majority with 125 seats, while Mahagath Bandhan won 110. RJD emerged as a single largest party with 75 seats. This election was notable for the first major electoral exercise conducted after the Covid-19 epidemic, in which voter voting was recorded at 56.93 percent.
This year, the Election Commission has made changes to improve voting experience. Each polling booth will now serve 1,200 voters instead of 1,500, and the number of booths in the entire state will increase.
This will require additional deployment of Central Armed Police Forces to ensure security and smooth operation.
As Bihar is waiting for the official announcement, political parties are ready for a deep campaign season. The unveiling of election dates later during the day will determine the tone of what would be the promise to look closely for power and contest fiercely elections.
