Jammu, October 6 (IANS) An 3.6 magnitude earthquake occurred in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, and officials said that no number or loss of any casualties was reported from anywhere.
Statistics released by the National Center for Sisamology (NCS) said that a earthquake measuring 3.6 on the Richter scale occurred in the Union area at 2.47 pm
“The earthquake was in the Doda region of Jammu and Kashmir, and it occurred at a depth of 5 km inside the earth’s crust.
“The latitude of the earthquake was 33.10 degrees north, and longitude was 76.18 degrees. So far no casualties or property damage has been reported from anywhere, although a shock was felt by people in the Doda region, causing momentary nervousness among the residents.”
Officials said the area is located in a seismically active area and earthquakes are also happening in the area in the past.
In fact, the Chenb Valley regions in the entire Kashmir Valley and Jammu and Kashmir are located in seismic sensitive areas.
Earthquakes have wreaked havoc in Kashmir in the past. An earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale occurred at 8.50 am on 8 October 2005, killing more than 80,000 people on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC).
The 2005 earthquake was center in Muzaffarabad city of Pakistan -occupied Kashmir (POK). The entire Muzaffarabad city was reduced to the earthquake.
During the last decade, the earthquake of light from the earthquake of light has been occurring in the Chenab Valley region, affecting the Doda, Kishtvar and Ramban districts. Experts are trying to find out the exact cause of these earthquakes occurring with almost recurring periodicity.
Officials recommend people to construct earthquake -friendly houses and other structures with minimal use of cement concrete, which is the weakest among the disasters caused by earthquakes.
