Chennai, 6 October (IANS) The Regional Meteorological Center (RMC) at Chennai on Monday has estimated heavy rains on the districts of Thiruvannamalai, Wilupuram, Kudalore and Kallkurichi, as the weather system affects conditions in the Tamil Nadu and the southern states of the Commission.
According to RMC, a low pressure area remains on the Tamil Nadu and parts of the southern peninsula, which increases the possibility of rapid rainfall with thunder and lightning.
The department has also warned that the existing unstable weather may expand in the next three days, causing moderate rains and thunderstorms in many parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karikal on 9 October.
In 24 hours ending on Monday morning, Egumalai recorded the state’s highest rainfall at 13 cm in Madurai district. Other notable figures include Krishnagiri (12 cm), Namakkal (11 cm), Edappadi (10 cm) in Salem, Shankri Durg (7 cm) in Salem, and Karupanadi dam in Tenkasi (6 cm).
Widespread rainfall over the weekend has given relief in some areas, but has also triggered waterlogging and traffic disruption in low-flying areas.
The Meteorological Department said that Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem and Tirupattur districts are likely to experience heavy rains on Tuesday.
Chennai and its suburbs will be partly cloudy with light to moderate rains and sometimes thunderstorms in some areas.
Despite the rains, temperatures in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Curikal are expected to be more warm than normal to 3 ° C through October 9.
Meteorologists advised the residents to be vigilant for a sudden decline, especially in flood-affected urban pockets. Authorities have urged people in heavy rainfall areas to avoid unnecessary travel, check the weather updates, and be cautious with the waterfall roads and open drains.
Farmers and fishermen are advised to closely monitor the advisors, while local bodies are expected to be prepared for potential water stagnation. RMC has said that it will continue to monitor the developed system and release updates on time as the northeast monsoon is slowly set.
