Officials said on Sunday that Guwahati, October 5 (IANS) Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has registered a steady increase in goods unloading activities.
NFR Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said that in the month of September 2025, NFR removed a total of 1,059 freight racks, which shows an increase of 9.63 percent on 966 rakes on 966 rakes during the previous year.
He said that during the month, NFR provided the facility of transporting essential commodities such as FCI (Food Corporation of India) rice, sugar, salt, edible oil, edible grains, fertilizers, cement, coal, vegetables, automobiles, tankers and other items, which were later unloaded in various goods of its jurishadictions.
An important part of this goods traffic supports the northeastern states, CPRO said. In September 2025, a total of 595 rakes were unloaded in Assam, of which 291 rakes run essential commodities.
During the same period, 83 rakes in Tripura, 21 in Nagaland, 7 in Arunachal Pradesh, 20 in Manipur, 2 rakes in Meghalaya and 19 rakes in Mizoram.
Additionally, 179 rakes in West Bengal and 133 rakes in Bihar were also incorporating essential and non-essential items within the jurisdiction of the Northeast Frontier Railway during September 2025.
Regular transport of essential and other items ensures that people’s daily requirements are met when maintaining and promoting the economic activities of the region.
Close monitoring at every level has helped reduce turnaround time and improve unloading efficiency, Sharma said.
The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is operated in the 17 railway areas of the country, in the northeastern states and seven districts of West Bengal and five districts of North Bihar.
Meanwhile, in a significant development, the capital of Mizoram became the fourth capital in the Northeast, which was inaugurated by rail by rail in the Northeast by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 13 September after inaugurating the 51.38 km Barabi-Sireng Railway Project in the North Eastern after inauguration of the 51.38 km Barabi-Sireng railway project.
