Chennai, October 5 (IANS) Tamil Nadu BJP spokesperson ANS Prasad has urged Chief Minister MK Stalin to take immediate “corrective” measures to ensure effective implementation of the Central Government’s Chief Water Life Mission (JJM) and address allegations of corruption and disability for clean water in rural areas.
Prasad said that the state administration should do “decisively and without delay to give this guarantee that villages with tap connections under JJM are actually receiving safe drinking water.
He said, “Despite the large -scale money by the Narendra Modi government, people in many villages still complain of dried taps and incomplete pipeline works. The Tamil Nadu government cannot allow people to deny the fundamental rights of drinking water,” he cannot allow corruption and negligence, “he said.
According to Prasad, the central government has directed that the funds allocated to the contractors are stopped if they fail to maintain quality standards or timely projects on time.
“If there is laps, delay, or corruption, the money must be stopped immediately – this is the clear instruction of the Center,” he said, the Stalin -led DMK urged the government to implement this strict implementation and prevent disruption in the scheme.
The spokesperson said that Tamil Nadu saw significant improvements since the launch of JJM in August 2019, when only 17.37 percent of rural families had tap water connections.
“Thanks to the tireless efforts by the Modi government, the coverage is now 89.25 percent, is connected to more than 1.11 crore houses. But it is the responsibility of a state to ensure a stable water supply, and the DMK has failed here,” Prasad claimed.
He warned that poor monitoring and corruption could cause suspension of central funds, hurting millions of rural residents.
“This would be a serious injustice for those who are dependent on JJM for safe water,” he said.
Prasad criticized CM Stalin for “political” the center-state relations instead of focusing on delivery. He said, “In the DMK incidents, the Chief Minister alleges that the BJP wants to ‘control’ Tamil Nadu and the money is stopped – these claims are baseless and misleading. Instead of indulging in political stunts, the government should fix its administrative failures,” he said.
Calling JJM a “Lifeline for millions”, the BJP leader urged CM Stalin to work transparent and efficiently with the Center.
Prasad said, “Stop blaming and start distributing – the people of Tamil Nadu are worthy of clean drinking water, not empty slogans.”
