J&K Asembly Speaker says that MLA Malik can participate in the session taken into custody if court or government permit

Srinagar, October 3 (IANS) J&K Assembly Speaker, Abdul Rahim said on Friday that if Doda MLA Mehraj Malik attended the upcoming session, it would be a welcome step, but the decision is with the court or the government.

Rather, Malik has to get permission through legal channels.

He said, “He needs to contact the court, or if the government allows him, it should participate. It depends on whether the government or the court allows him or not.”

On the issue of PDP MLA Wahid Parra, rather confirmed that the show-causal notice issued against him is still under the examination.

“Para has presented his answer, and the matter is under consideration,” he said.

The speaker said that Para had earlier spread misinformation, claiming that the Assembly Secretariat had approved the Public Safety Act (PSA) against the DODA MLA, which he had clarified, was wrong.

“The Secretariat does not have such powers. PSA is imposed by the District Magistrate,” rather was emphasized.

The chairman said that on October 23, the upcoming session of the J&K assembly called by the LT Governor will be reduced and a provisional calendar will be released soon.

Doda MLA Malik was detained under the PSA, which allows a person to be detained for a maximum period of two years without any judicial intervention, declaring his activities as harmful to peace and order in the district.

Malik won the 2024 assembly election as AAM AADMI Party (AAP) candidate from Doda, became the only representative of the party in the 90 -member assembly.

He initially supported the Omar Abdulla-President National Conference Government, but later withdrew his support, alleging that it had failed to fulfill the promises made by voters.

J&K assembly has 47 candidates from Kashmir Valley and 43 from Jammu Division.
