Police chief is a lawyer for long -term community policing
Shamader has long been a lawyer for community policing, which aims to build confidence among the authorities and the public. He said on Friday that he understands that there is a lot of anger in the community over Croffard’s treatment – Omaha’s favorite son, who is making history by becoming the first male boxer to capture three integrated division titles.
He said, “We understand the importance of this traffic for our community, and the implication and the assumption that it is given,” he said.
But he said that almost complete internal investigation in the traffic stop shows that the officials involved in this have not violated the policy of the department.
According to his reports, the authorities saw a high-performance sedan to a high-demonstration sedan without license plates, which exits a downtown parking garage around 1:30 am in the city and quickly exceeds the speed limit of 25 miles (40 km per hour). Officials did not know that Craford was driving the car, Shamader said, before they would pull it. Two officials approached it – one towards a passenger and the other towards the driver.
Shamader said the initial conversation was cordial, which he had evaluated through body camera footage. Crawford, who was driving, told the officer at his window that the car was new and “was away from him.”
At that time, a member of the security team of Croffard who was on the passenger seat, told the officer at his window that he was taking a legal handgun, said Shamaderr. Crawford, who was bending over the car’s console, said that the officer also had a legal gun, but in the driver’s side window, the officer did not listen to the exchange, Shamadar said.
This is when the driver looked at Crawford’s gun on the floor with his feet, pulled his service weapon and ordered CrFard and three others to be excluded. Shamader said that Crawford and others were handcuffed for about 10 minutes. Police confirmed that all the residents of the vehicle were legally allowed to carry the firearms and were allowed to leave after about 30 minutes, on suspicion of negligent driving, Crawford was given a ticket.
A spokesman for Crawford said on Friday that there was no boxer’s comment.
The video of the incident will not be released, the chief says
Shamader said that he would not share the stop of the stop video of the stop until Crawford agrees.
He said, “We do not have any fatal here. We do not have an officer-shape shooting, and it is usually not our protocol to release that footage under those circumstances,” he said.
