Mizoram’s Lengpui Airport operated as pits as operated on runway, 4 flights canceled

Officials said that 3 October (IANS) flight operations at Lone Airport, Langpui, Mizoram, were seen at least two pits on the runway on Friday, when four flights were stopped to cancel and four flights, officials said.

An official said that after looking at at least two pits on the runway, flight operations were stopped at Lengpui Airport in Mizoram. Two flights were converted into Agartala, while one from Kolkata and Guwahati did not return to one -because they could not get down.

The official said, “As a precautionary measure, the flights of Kolkata, Delhi and other airports landing in Leng Pui were canceled due to security concerns,” the official said that the airport officials have done emergency repair work and the normal flight operation is expected to resume after restoring the runway.

He said that the runway problem in Mizoram’s Loan Airport, Langpui was not new, as pits and similar disadvantages were first on tabletop runways. Lengpui Airport, 30 km north of the Capital City Aizol operates flights connecting flights to Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Imphal and Shillong.

Located at an altitude of 1,228 feet above sea level, Lengpui Airport is one of the few airports in India built by a state government in 1998. Meanwhile, the Central Industrial Security Force (CIFF) captured the security of the Lengpui Airport in April this year.

Deployment is also an important milestone, which is the first CISF unit established in the northeastern state of Mizoram.

“Force brings with 25 years of expertise in aviation security, this strategically important increases the security structure of the airport,” said an official.

The official said that the decision to station the CISF personnel at Lengpui Airport aligns with a widespread initiative of the Government of India to strengthen security in civil aviation facilities across the country.

According to the official, in addition to their main security responsibilities, CISF personnel will work closely with local authorities and other stakeholders, which are effective, convenient and friendly to develop and implement advanced security protocols.

The official said that these increased measures aim to provide passengers with a safe and easy travel experience, while terrorism, smuggling and other illegal activities address emerging dangers.
