The CBI presented the final charge sheet in the recruitment case of Bengal Primary Teachers; The names of 3 new accused are included

Kolkata, 3 October (IANS) Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday presented its final charge sheet in the case related to irregularities in the recruitment of primary teachers in schools of West Bengal government, and included three more names as accused.

It is the fifth supplementary charge sheet filed by the CBI in the case, and an agency’s internal source said this is also the last charge sheet.

The first of the three new names in the final charge sheet, Trinmool Congress MLA from Nakshipra assembly constituency in Nadia district, Manik Bhattacharya, who is the former chairman of the West Bengal Board of Primary Education (WBBPE).

The other name is from Ratna Bagchi, a WBBPE employee, while Bhattacharya was the chairman of the board.

The third name in the final charge sheet is that of the Berving Officer, which has been recognized by the Central Investigation Agency as a middleman in the recruitment scam.

According to the final charge sheet of the CBI, the officer was the chairman of the Association of Private Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) and Diploma in Elementary Education (DLED) colleges in Birbham district, and used the chair that was to push the candidates for appointment in various state-run schools against the payment of hafti.

Bhattacharya and Bagchi have been integrated into the past by both CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials, who are conducting a parallel investigation into the case.

In fact, former West Bengal Education Minister and Trinmool Congress General Secretary Partha Chatterjee was first arrested by ED officials in the recruitment of primary teachers in July 2022. Later, the CBI also arrested him in the case.

At the same time, Chatterjee was also shown as accused in cases of recruitment of secondary and higher secondary teachers by both CBI and ED and recruitment of non-teaching staff in Group-C and Group D categories in state-driven schools, recruitment for whom the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) is operated.
