Consumer confidence in economy is at the lowest point this year

According to a survey, consumer confidence in Britain’s economy fell at the lowest point of this year.

The number of people in KPMG’s 3,000 UK consumers’ Latest Consumer Pulse Survey is feeling that the economy is increasing from 51% to 62% in the last three months – above 43% since 2025.

Most consumers (58%) feel financially safe, there is no change since the last quarter.

However, due to the notion that the UK economy is deteriorating, consumers say they are reduced or spending, found in the survey.

Those who agreed that the UK economy was deteriorating, 56% said they were spending everyday items, which was above 51% in the last quarter.

The cost of groceries was the most common reason to feel that the economy was deteriorating, from 81%, above 79% in the previous quarter, cost of utilities, 77%, above 74% in the previous quarter.

Linda Ellet, head of consumer, retail and holiday KPMG UKSaid: “Reports of rising food inflation and high energy bills are two potential factors to increase consumer disasters about the UK economy in this autumn this autumn.

“Most families feel safe in their current ability to manage their domestic budget, what a deteriorating economy would be or it may mean that consumers are leading to say that they are spending, changing or spending.

As the previous consumer was in Pulse Surveys this year, eating out (40%) and takeaWays (34%) were the most common things that reports that people report lower in this quarter compared to the previous.

Ms. Ellet said: “As food inflation, high employment costs, and other supply challenges filter their ways through the cost of food and drinks – both grocery items and out of food – consumers tell us that they are adopting their behavior to manage these high costs.

“Groups of consumers are cut back at frequency or total cost of food, when grocery purchases, or loyalty card prices are switched on products.”
