After greeting her as ‘Devi’, the women of Bengal bid farewell to mother Durga as ‘daughter’

Kolkata, at the beginning of the current week on 2 October (IANS), when the four -day Durga Puja started with Maha Saptanami, the common Bengali women congratulated Mala Durga as “Devi”, coming to Earth to destroy evil spirits.

However, four days later, on Thursday, on the occasion of Vijaya Dahsami, Bengali women bid farewell to the same “Devi Durga”, but were going to her in -laws’ place for a year, more as “daughter at home”.

In fact, on the occasion of Vijaya Dashami, farewell to Goddess Durga, similar rituals are followed, which are distinctive to any traditional Bengali family, while a day after the latter wedding, a young bride is sent to her in -laws’ place.

Views of various puja pandals were similar. The women mostly went to separate puja pandals worn in red and white sarees, covered the face of the first Durga idols with betel nut leaves, Vermilian on the foreheads and cheek of the idols, and finally pressed the sweets on the lips of the idols.

After that, the rituals with idols ended, and the women celebrated the opportunity, shed vermilion on each other’s forehead and cheek.

Explaining the argument behind the ritual, Monosree Banerjee (36), a resident of the Lake Town region in northern Kolkata, said that for Bengalis, Goddess Durga is not just a goddess who destroys evils.

“She is like a daughter at home, after a point, goes to her in -laws’ place. For us, these four days of Durga Puja are an opportunity coming from her in -laws to our homes from her in -laws. Role,” she explained.

According to Supriya Mukherjee (63), Vijaya Dashami, a resident of Maheshlla region on the southern outskirts of Kolkata, reminds him of the days to bid farewell to Maya Durga when he used to bury a newly married.

“We wait for this day throughout the year. I was once a new bride. Now I have become a mother -in -law. But the enthusiasm is the same. Although we feel a little unhappy today because we have to wait for another year, this Sindhor game has promised to bring back our daughter Uma again. With a heavy heart, we focuses on our beloved, but we say this tradition and said that the sister said that the sister -in -law said only 15 days ago. The family is shaken into the core.

“Sindoor played has become an integral part of our culture for a gradual years. With a ritual on the occasion of Vijaya Dashami, it has turned into a celebration of life and femininity. Meanwhile, the immersion process has started on Tuesday afternoon on the body of many Ganga Ghats, other lakes and artificial water in various parts of Kolkata. The immersion process is being jointly conducted by personnel of Kolkata Police, Disaster Management Department, Kolkata Municipal Corporation and River Traffic Guard under blanket safety coverage.

On Thursday, there was less crowds for immersion as worship organizers mainly go to visit the housing complexes, individual residences and extreme conservative communities on the occasion of Vijaya Dashami among the worship organizers.
